Menaces pour la biodiversité, les plantes, insectes et mammifères exotiques envahissants prospèrent faute de régulation et de moyens de lutte suffisants.

Berce du Caucase, écrevisse de Louisiane, myriophylle du Brésil, frelon asiatique. Leurs noms font voyager. Mais ces espèces exotiques envahissantes (EEE) ont déjà posé leurs pattes ou creusé leurs racines sur le territoire français et y sont souvent bien installées.

« Il s’agit d’espèces introduites par l’homme, de manière volontaire ou accidentelle, en dehors de leur aire naturelle de répartition et qui se sont implantées et se propagent avec des impacts négatifs sur les espèces indigènes, les écosystèmes, les habitats et ont des conséquences écologiques, sanitaires ou économiques négatives », explique Emmanuelle Sarat, chargée de mission EEE au comité français de l’Union internationale pour la conservation de la nature (UICN).

Le phénomène est global. La France est particulièrement touchée car elle est au cœur de nombreux flux touristiques et commerciaux, mais aussi en raison de la vulnérabilité des écosystèmes insulaires en outre-mer.

Passagers clandestins de cargaisons de marchandises ou voyageant dans les eaux de ballast des bateaux, spécimens importés pour fleurir des jardins d’ornement… l’augmentation du rythme de ces « invasions biologiques » est à relier au développement de la mondialisation. Depuis 1982, un département métropolitain compte en moyenne douze espèces exotiques envahissantes de plus tous les dix ans, selon l’Inventaire national du patrimoine naturel.
